About

Definition of ‘Engendered’

1) To have caused or given rise to a feeling, condition or situation.
2) To have procreated or propogated.

Our name is inspired by the ways in which society, culture and policies shape our “gender” identity and how those identities manifest themselves in attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that further reinforce those “gendered” identities. At the same time, we have the ability to create new definitions for ourselves that give rise to different conditions of existence that are non-binary and do not conform to these norms.

In producing our show, we have been very deliberate in ensuring that every aspect of the show supports a theme of deep engagement, hope, and possibility. Our intro song for each episode is called “Hopeful” while the outro song is entitled “We are the heroes.”

Each show also ends with a series of en(gender)ed questions that we ask each guest that we hope will form a template for how we can understand these problems and take action from a place of strength and possibility. As Rebecca Solnit says in her book, “Hope in the Dark,” hope is a revolutionary act at a time of crisis. Imagine what we can engender together.

Our show is sponsored by Kanduit.
