I launched en(gender)ed in May 2018, just two months after serving as a survivor member of the NYC Domestic Violence Task Force and as a almost five-year member of the NYC Gender Justice Task Force.  I was selected to be one of a handful of survivors voices of the former, and quickly realized how valuable it would be to develop a common language, set of shared values, and vision as to how we approach domestic violence prevention and interventions in New York City and beyond.

Since the 2016 election, I’ve felt a greater sense of urgency around how to translate my personal experiences as a survivor of domestic violence and coercive control to helping others see the parallels of abuse in power in the public sphere.  In short, my goal in creating this podcast is to help us develop a cultural literacy around recognizing, addressing and preventing abuse and violence and to tap into the collective wisdom of service providers, survivors, policymakers, across non-profits, academia, philanthropy, technology and other industries, to craft viable, long-term solutions.

Producing this show allows me to speak with all of these stakeholders in our society and other fascinating people on a regular basis. And the beauty of a podcast is that others can listen to these conversations whenever and wherever they want.

But in order to devote the necessary time to this work—and to expand the range of what I can do in this medium—the podcast must become a reliable source of income. Now, you can sponsor the show directly through our support button.

I’m tremendously honored to have a community of people who value what I do. And I look forward to taking our conversation in new directions.

Many thanks for your help!

Teri
